Berlisconi says only allow 'hot chicks' into the country

The Italian prime minister, who is notorious for making jokes of questionable taste, (not by me) was speaking to journalists after holding talks with the prime minister of Albania, Sali Berisha.... on the trafficking of illegal immigrants across the Adriatic Sea by people smugglers.

We'd make exceptions for anyone bringing over beautiful girls." Mr Berlusconi, whose wife is divorcing him for his alleged philandering, "You know I'm single now."
Single? I can’t understand why… he’s such a catch.
I believe the appropriate phrase is “testa de cazzo”.

Berlisconi gets beaned

Massimo Tartaglia Is A National Hero For Hitting Silvio Berlusconi In The Face With A Cathedral.

He gets hit in the face with a statuette of Il Duomo. Forty-two year-old Massimo Tartaglia is being painted in the mainstream media as having a history of psychological problems, but I see nothing crazy about having heard enough bullshit from Berlusconi.

Hey.....it's just a little heart attack

If you are going to have a heart attack you can only hope you’ll get a doctor like this. In Italy, a doctor was performing a delicate brain surgery when he started to have a heart attack. Knowing his patient would not survive if surgery was stopped he nutted up and kept going. Think about that act of manliness next time you are complaining about your allergies.

An Italian doctor completed a brain operation despite having a heart attack after realizing his patient would never recover if he stopped the surgery.
Surgeon Claudio Vitale started feeling pains in his chest half way through the operation but refused to stop despite his team’s urging and the pain worsening.

After finishing the surgery, the doctor had an angioplasty operation to treat his attack.
Vitale insists he’s not a hero, but that he couldn’t leave the patient “at such a delicate moment.”
Both doctor and patient are recovering.

The Belgium Royal Dysfunctional Family is worth 2.25 billion euros

The owner of the luxurious property 'Villa Fanini' in the Italian region of Tuscany has officially confirmed to Het Laatste Nieuws that King Albert offered 50 million euros for the 31-hectare domain with its enormous villa, vineyards, swimming pool, hotel and restaurant.
The paper questions how he could make the offer with Albert’s official private wealth of 12.4 million euros (excluding his country residence in the South of France and his yacht).
The private wealth of the Royal Family is still one of the greatest mysteries in the country, says Jan Van den Berghe, a well-known royal watcher. Van den Berghe.
In 1999 the business paper 'Euro Business' maintained that the Belgian Royal Family were 2.25 billion euros strong. That amount was the result of months of investigations by two British journalists, but it includes all properties of the Crown, such as palaces.
Van den Berghe thinks that the result of 200 million euros, as calculated by a British paper, is more realistic. It is remarkable that less than two weeks ago the King spoke at length about poverty in his 21 July speech and called on solidarity with the almost 15% poor and needy people in our country. “With the 50 million euros offer in mind, his speech is questionable”, according to Van den Berghe.

Former topless model joins Berlusconi's cabinet

Thatsa spicy meatball!
The Italian prime minister, long known for his fondness for pretty women, has named former topless model and beauty queen Mara Carfagna as equal opportunities minister in his new cabinet.
Miss Carfagna, 33, turned to politics after a career on TV following her sixth-place finish in the 1997 Miss Italy contest. STORY

Mafia blamed for 70 million litres of tainted Italian wine

Don Corleone would've never tainted wine! Evidently you could have dropped a load in this stuff, and not tasted the difference.

Italy produced and sold at least 70 million litres of cheap wine containing acid, manure and fertiliser, Italian weekly L'Espresso said on Friday, largely blaming organised crime in the south.
It said bottles sold at less than two euros (around three dollars) a litre contained very little wine, and a potentially deadly concoction of water and chemical substances, including hydrochloric acid. STORY

It's now illegal for Italian men to scratch their balls in public!

On the bright side, Italian TV can now broadcast every episode of The Sopranos in six minutes.

Italy's Court of Appeal has issued a new hands-off landmark ruling - outlawing men from scratching their crotches in public.
The ruling says that blatant scratching or holding is "an act contrary to decorum and public decency".
Superstitious Italian men often hold or touch their private parts for good luck when they see a hearse or to ward off bad luck - the equivalent of touching wood in Britain. STORY

Paris Hilton and Brussels incur grapes of wrath

Wine connoisseurs in Italy are fighting to defend what they claim is their heritage against a twin threat from Hungary and our favorite piece of human garbage.... the hotel heiress Paris Hilton
The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg had ruled that Hungary but not Italy could use the term Tokai, Tocai or Tokaj, although wine producers in Friuli-Venezia Giulia have been using it for centuries.
The fight with Paris Hilton, meanwhile, is over a drink called Rich Prosecco and its advertising campaign featuring the socialite wearing nothing but a coating of gold paint, in imitation of the actress Shirley Eaton in the James Bond film Goldfinger.
The reason behind the protests is that Hilton has not only used the name prosecco, which Italians regard as their copyright, but also, sacrilegiously, put the drink in a can and mixed it with fruit juice. STORY

Mafia is Italy's biggest commercial business

The Mafia is now the biggest business in Italy, with organised crime netting Mob bosses more than £63bn a year, or 7 per cent of the country's gross domestic product, from drugs, extortion and prostitution.
Tano Grasso, the head of Italy's anti-racketeering commission, said the Mafia made £21bn from extortion last year, with 160,000 businesses, mostly in southern Italy, paying up. As a result, only one in 10 foreign investors set up companies in the south, he said. READ ON

Is She a Whore?

Italy defender Marco Materazzi finally disclosed what he said to Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup final that provoked the French star to retaliate with a head-butt.
Finally, after a little more than one year, we finally have the words that led to the headbutt heard ’round the world: I prefer the whore that is your sister.’ This solidifies it - Zidane is a weak, weak man.
Does Materazzi really think people are going to buy this book because of that one line? Does he really think he’s that compelling of a figure?

Ryanair...We'll get you there when we feel like it!

Belgians left stranded
Several dozen Belgians were forced to spend Friday night at Pisa Airport after the plane that was due to take them to back Charleroi in Hainaut province was grounded by bad weather. To save ten eurocents per passenger Ryanair has initiated their new "run naked through security" procedures, as seen above.
The passengers will now have to wait until Monday evening for the next scheduled flight back to Belgium from the airport or buy a ticket with another airline to try, if they want to return to Belgium before.
The stranded passengers are unhappy at having to pay for three nights extra accommodation.
However, Ryanair is unrepentant. The company's spokesman in Belgium David Gering told VRT radio that "you should compare our flights with bus services".
"If your bus doesn’t turn up you don't expect the bus company to pay for an expensive hotel room while you wait for the next one".
Take the bus, leave the crashing to us!

The Italians have it figured out.

Last week, the Italian interior minister, Giuliano Amato, hosted a conference in Rome on "Islam and Integration." Italy, one of Europe's southern border states, has 1 million Muslims out of a population of 58 million people. Illegal immigrants arrive in Italy in huge numbers.
The Italians, however, have a way of dealing with illegal immigrants. They regularly transform them into legal residents by granting them official papers.

Most of them leave Italy shortly afterward. Since Italy belongs to the European Union and since the EU adheres to the principle of the free movement of persons, an amnesty gives immigrants the right to freely enter all EU member states. Italy allows the immigrants in so that they move out, to EU nations with more generous welfare systems.

Alps tunnel opens

The world’s longest land tunnel, through the Alps, opened yesterday. The 35km (21mile) Loetschberg tunnel took eight years to build and cost about 4.3 billion Swiss francs (£1.7 billion). High-speed trains from Germany, France and Italy will get skiers to Swiss ski resorts more quickly.

President Bush immediately announced he saw a light at the end of it and he would stand down as the Swiss stood up.
