Nigel Farage fined over blast at Herman von Rompey

Nigel Farage has been fined just under 3,000 euros (£2,700) after refusing to apologise for a tirade in the European Parliament......
and still no one has stepped forward to tell me they have ever seen van Rompey and a Goleb from Lord of the Rings in the same room?

He was reprimanded for "insulting" behaviour after telling President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy he had "the charisma of a damp rag".

Farage said on his Twitter page.... "Sentence passed, letter from parliament. President: Maximum allowable fine 2,980 euros. Free speech is expensive in Brussels."

If you haven't seen the video......this is a classic beatdown. Obama...being the little pussy that he is....would have stepped down after this.

Nigel Farage might be the rudest man in Europe as he rips Von Rompey a new ass

MEP and UKIP leader Nigel Farage on Wednesday delivered another major tirade against EU President Herman van Rompuy during a debate in the European Parliament. Farage highlighted the undemocratic fashion in which van Rompuy came to power and the effect he’s had on Europe since.

He noted, too, that Greece has been reduced to nothing more than a “protectorate.” Farage added that Van Rompuy had the “charisma of a damp rag” and the appearance of a “low-grade bank clerk” and asked by what process he could be removed from office.

Belgium managed to run itself as dysfunctional as usual without a government for almost nine months. That tells you all you need to know about politics.

Just asking.....but has anybody ever seen van Rompey and a Goleb from Lord of the Rings in the same room?

Vaclav Klaus denounces the EU

President Vaclav Klaus, a well-known skeptic about grand ideas for the European Union, on Thursday indirectly compared the union to the former Soviet Union, saying that there was a similar uniformity of thought.

There is an “uncriticizable assumption that there is only one possible and correct future of the European integration,” he told the European Parliament in Brussels. “Those who dare thinking about a different option are labeled enemies.” .......would that be kind of like Al Gore and the global warming moonbats.

He said that people in Eastern Europe had “lived in a political system that permitted no alternatives” and that “with no opposition, there is no freedom.” He declined to say whether he would sign the Lisbon Treaty, which would create a permanent European president and foreign minister.

European Commission demands a single, standard phone charger

Here's an idea whose time is way over due. The European Commission is getting ready to force all mobile phone companies to use a single connector on their chargers, in order to eliminate the mountains of e-waste generated by switching chargers every time you switch phones. Transformer bricks with esoteric connectors are the most common form of electronic crap you see on street-vendors' kiosks around the world.... and given that they all put out nearly the same voltage and amperage, it really is a huge waste.....and ripoff to boot.

The European Commission plans to force mobile phone manufacturers to manufacture one mobile phone charger for all mobile phones, according the European Commissioner for Industry, Gunther Verheugen in an interview with the German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

EU forces passengers on and off the buses

They just can't help themselves. In another effort to justify their being, the EU now wants Bus passengers who travel along a route of more than 30 miles, to get off the vehicle midway through their journey to comply with new EU laws.
How long before they do it on planes?

The driver is obliged to pull over and ask everyone to get off before the route number on the front of the vehicle is changed, and all the passengers are invited back on board.
“Often it’s in the middle of nowhere. The passengers think we are crazy. “All they do is inconvenience the passengers who have to keep getting on and off. It’s like an Ealing comedy.” STORY

Microsoft fined €900 million by Brussels

Talk is cheap. Flouting the rules is expensive...
The new European investigations come as Microsoft finds itself in danger of seeing EU governments effectively ban its software to create documents. The European Commission and its member states have been mulling a mandate that all government documents be created in the Open Document Format (ODF), an open source competitor to the proprietary format used in Microsoft Word. Brussels to ban Patio Heaters....hey it's Global Warming!

Freezing smokers, thrown out of pubs thanks to the smoking ban, have taken to huddling by outdoor heaters. Obviously, it's time to ban those.
A vote in Brussels today is expected to call on the European Commission to abolish the heaters to help to tackle climate change. Such a move could cost the pub and catering trade dear.
Pubs spent about £85 million on patio heaters after the smoking ban was introduced last year. Besides forcing smokers into the cold there is concern that a ban on patio heaters could bring a significant cash loss to pubs, cafés and restaurants.

Here's a thought: If you want to build a movement against climate change, it's probably best not to make a nation of smokers desperate for a bit of global warming. I think Brussels must be afraid of the competition for producing 'Hot Air'?......Smoke 'em if ya got 'em. STORY IN THE TIMES

Brussels to name the Scammers

The European Commission has vowed to expose industries and companies that rip off consumers by charging them far more in one country than in another.
You think the commission will expose itself?
And while your at it do something about the 20 emails I get every day telling me how to enlarge my penis, or my Nigerian friends who can get me millions.....with just a little cash in advance.

A report launched today will highlight how consumers in Britain are having to pay twice the amount for electricity as in Belgium or Greece.
Within the next five years, the commission hopes to publish a full basket of 500 goods - available in all 27 member states - that will serve to name and shame the most expensive countries. STORY

EU issues directive on orgasms

The European Commission is working on a new directive to define a female orgasm after numerous reports of fake orgasms appearing throughout the continent.
Following an in depth survey across all member states the Commission found that the quality of orgasm - which was first discovered in France - varied significantly from country to country.

A spokesperson said in Brussels: "European law is very clear on the subject: whenever a product's name means that customers could expect a certain level of quality, it is important that suppliers of that product maintain those levels."The EC's definition of the orgasm is still a secret but it is understood to be linked to the Richter scale.
In a separate statement the EC said it was powerless to influence human rights violations in states who were major trading partners. They haven't figured it out yet, but spokesman Heywood Jablowme said they are working on implementing a tax for orgasms in the future.

Hey....you, have to admit, it's not that farfetched for the EU, is it?

EU urges Belgium to open up broadband fast

Seems like Brussels is too busy pursuing the big boys like Microsoft and Intel, instead of looking at the price fixing in their own backyard......Something that could actually benefit the consumer a bit.
The European Commission warned Belgium on Thursday to implement plans to boost competition in its broadband market quickly or face possible court action. "Effective and speedy enforcement of existing regulatory measures is crucial for more competition and better services," she said in a statement, noting that Belgian consumers paid "rather high prices" for broadband services. The Goose Steppers return to Europe

You won't see this on your local cable channel! The Euroweenies couldn't force the constitution down your throat, so they're trying to do it with a Lisbon Treaty by calling the same shit a different name. Here they are trying to confiscate banners and muzzle the protesters.
It's amazing to watch most Europeans just be led like Lemmings over the cliff as their freedoms are taken away one at a time. It's sad, you'd like to help, but you can't help those who won't help themselves.

These Boots Are Gonna Walk All Over You

The signing of the Lisbon agreement yesterday will end the public’s ability to vote on continuing with the movement toward an EU Constitution. It has been obvious for many years that the leaders of the EU don’t want to have the public vote on the direction the EU is taking.
The liberal members of the EU worry about having a revised referendum voted down by any country. So they don't want any further public unhappy opinions to be displayed by a negative vote. If this passes (they still have to ratify it) you can forget voting.

You can make us pay for this crap but you can't make us listen to it.

The European commission is setting up its own radio station for distributing EU propaganda. And guess what kiddies, you get to pay for it! All yours for the bargain price of £11,500 a day.
Dubbed "Radio Brussels", (aka Radio Bulls**t) the station will be financed by the European taxpayer and will broadcast to up to 20 million listeners next year. I imagine actual listening figures will be countable on one hand! Wanna bet on who's going to be doing the math on the listenership numbers?

The European commission wants the taxpayer to fund what Lord Haw Haw was hanged for. Now the EU will have its own Minister of Information, any bells ringing here?

Is Belgium Going to Fail the European Treaty?

"An embarrassing question is going round behind the scenes in Europe ... : will Belgium be capable of signing the new European Treaty in the coming weeks?" explain Carine Doutrelepont and Pascal Lefevre, European law experts. "The heads of state or government leaders of the 27 EU Member States have indeed agreed to sign the new European Treaty in Lisbon on December 13th, 2007. Nothing, however, gives a clear indication of whether our resigned government is in a position to sign, seeing as it has to ... limit its action to 'current affairs'. ... Belgium, founding state of the EU and base of many institutions, would pointlessly loose credit if it blocked the signing of an extremely important act for Europe, simply because it is incapable of setting-up a federal government."

Brussels busts Bavarian Barmaids

If I told you the bureaucrats that run the EU were going to make Bavarian barmaids who dress in traditional but revealing dirndls like this and this cover up their assets, you’d cry “What a bunch of boobs!”
“Yet surely,” you’d continue, “there must be a good reason why they’d do such a thing, right? To halt the objectification of women, maybe? Um, to make them wear non-gender-specific uniforms?”
No, no, and no. It’s to protect them from the sun! You see, thanks to Paul Belien at The Brussels Journal we’re now aware of the European Union’s Optical Radiation Directive, about to be voted on, in which employers face heavy fines if they fail to protect their employees against the risk of sunburn.
When it dawned on the Bavarians earlier this week that the directive would entail that their dirndl-dressed barmaids cover up their bosoms when serving drinks outside, there were fierce protests against the EU. “This is European law-making at its most pedantic,” said Munich’s lord mayor, Christian Ude. The organisers of the world’s biggest beer festival, the Munich Oktoberfest, called the proposed ban “an attack on the traditions of [their] region.”
Go read the article and see why if you want a picture of the future of life in the EU (the latest iteration of the socialist nanny-state), imagine a pillow smothering a human face – for ever. (Usual apologies to George Orwell.)

Brussels: the world's nanny

The Economist has a fascinating column this week from Charlemagne, which notes that in the race to become the world's legislator, the US 'presumption of innocence' approach, is slowly being eclipsed by the European Union's 'precautionary principle'

9-11 protest goes on anyway

Belgian riot police officers arrest Belgium's far-right party Vlaams Belang's President Frank Vanhecke during a banned demonstration organised by the "Stop the Islamisation of Europe" group in Brussels September 11, 2007. The demonstration, which coincides with the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, was banned by the mayor of Brussels on the grounds that it would threaten public order. (translation...it might upset the Muslims)

The police in Brussels have called on people to avoid the area around the European Parliament and the headquarters of the European Commission. Several hundred people turned up for the 'Stop the Islamisation of Europe' demonstation despite it having been banned by the Mayor of Brussels.
The Mayor of Brussels Freddy Thielemans (Francophone socialist) banned the march admit fears that trouble could flair between demonstrators and members of Brussels' sizable Muslim community.

Protesters turning up for the demonstration were met with a large police presence that used strong arm tactics to disperse them.

Dozens of people, including the Chairman of the far-right Vlaams Belang Frank Vanhecke and the party's leader in the Flemish Parliament Filip Dewinter, were detained and driven away by police. Dewinter protested loudly as he was driven away, adding that it was a democratic demonstration. Meanwhile, Mr Vanhecke told journalists that he couldn't understand why the demonstration had been banned.
The Brussels mayor would not allow these 9-11 protesters to gather but did allow a demonstration of leftwing conspiracy nuts who blame Jews and neocons for the 9-11 attacks to gather on September 9.
