An increasing number of original inhabitants of the coast are leaving their native town because they can no longer afford to pay the high rents caused by the construction of new apartment blocks.
The group of original coast inhabitants that are forced to leave their native village because they can no longer afford to pay the high rents is on the increase.Single people, those that are deprived and even people on normal incomes can no longer cough up the prices asked on the sale or rental market. The price increase is due to the rise in the number of newly built apartment blocks.
In the coastal resort of Knokke-Heist, rents have risen from 300 to 400 euros a month in 2005, to 700 to 800 euros today.
