In what's at least a pretty cool proof-of-concept, Microsoft has released a preview of an interesting new online Live.com application that allows you to type in an address or landmark name and then be transported visually to a view of the area as if you were sitting in a vehicle. You can even drive around using the keyboard. All those billions in licensing fees we've paid to Microsoft over the years may have finally paid off. Windows Live Local, in beta testing now, has to be one of the most addictive Web search tools out there. How about the 45-degree bird's-eye images of major U.S. cities including Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle (with others coming). Windows Live Local lets you drive through all these major cities without ever leaving your desk.

The farm belongs to John Fowler, a wealthy father of three, who was jailed in 1992 for his part in a credit card scam linked to Hong Kong Triad gangs. Zythos Beer Festival
This weekend thousands of beer lovers will descend on the East Flemish town of Sint-Niklaas for the Zythos Beer Festival. The special beers' festival is being staged for the third time this year. 56 brewers are displaying over 200 beers in the town's Festival Hall. The Beer Festival takes place on 4 and 5 March in the Municipal Festival Hall of Sint-Niklaas in the Leopold II-laan.The Festival is open from 12 pm to 12 am on the Saturday, only until 10 pm on the Sunday. Entrance is free. Beers can be sampled and paid for with one euro tokens. Special beer glasses are available too. The Hall is located 150 metres from the railway station. READ ON

Belgians Take Coke Bottles to Netherlands
Thrifty Belgians are causing a headache for Dutch supermarkets by gathering large numbers of plastic Coca Cola bottles and bringing them across the border to the Netherlands to collect the deposit, Dutch media reported Tuesday. The scheme takes advantage of a recent move by Coke's Dutch arm to introduce new bottles that are identical to the ones used in Belgium - but the Dutch bottles carry a euro 0.25 deposit. READ ON

Former husband and wife Laurent Demey and Daisy Ragole have been sentenced to five years' imprisonment by the criminal court in Ghent. Both set up a large-scale scam at the Crédit Lyonnais bank, involving a record sum of 87 million euros. "An unbridled craving for fast and easy money-making to keep up appearances in the world of business". That's how the judge in Ghent (East Flanders) described their main motivation. Thalys train hits 331 kmh!
A Thalys high-speed train has reached a record speed of 331.1kmh during a test run between Rotterdam and the Belgian border. The test run was held on the new high-speed line HSL-South. The test runs started two weeks ago and are designed to test the railway and the new European safety system ERTMS.
