Couleur Café Brussels, June 27-29

In 1994, Couleur Café moved to Tour & Taxis, one of the most beautiful industrial sites in Europe. Nowadays, Couleur Café can no longer be rightfully described as a world music festival but more like a festival that proposes a full array of music styles coming from all over the world.

With more than 40 concerts over three days, Couleur Café offers the best of R&B, hip hop, world, afro, reggae, ragga, dub, dancehall, Latin, salsa, son, raï and rock under three huge tents.

There is also a dance floor featuring electronic music where festivalgoers can also feel the force of the musical mix. Couleur Café is an apt reflection of the city it calls home, Brussels, with its cultural mix that makes travelling the world as easy as looking out your front window. Although today it welcomes a crowd of 70,000 over three days, Couleur Café maintains a human scale. Independently organised and managed by Zig Zag, a non-profit organisation, Couleur Café preserves its vibrant party atmosphere 18 years after it started.

The end of the world as we know it!

Scottish schools prevented thousands of students from making Father's Day cards at school because the administration was afraid that it might embarrass those students who live with single mothers and lesbians. Wait. What?

Are fathers held in such low regard that no issue is too small to merit throwing fathers under the bus? Is this how low the bar has sunk for cutting dads out of the picture? STORY

The lost tribe discovered by Al Gore.... wasn't so lost........

Just less than a month ago there was lots of excitement about a tribe of people living deep in the Brazilian jungle that had been photographed from the air. It was claimed at the time that these villagers were just now being discovered for the first time.
In the past few days it's been determined that this was a lie on the part of the photographer.
José Carlos Meirelles has admitted that authorities have known about the tribe since at least 1910! He took the photos and still claimed that these people had been completely undiscovered until his aerial reconnaissance.
Why? Because he wanted it to seem like they were a truly lost tribe so that more attention would be given toward the issue of the impact of logging in the Amazon basin.
In other words: it was a lie driven by a political agenda. What a shocker eh?

Before everyone in every country not called America or Canada writes in to defend soccer, I’d like to point out that I’m a soccer fan. But I’m the first to admit that, at times, these games can be a little tedious (did anyone see Italy vs. Spain on Sunday?) Between the diving and the backpassing and the kicking-of-balls-100-yards-over-the-goal (seriously, please, just put it on net) there’s a fair bit of downtime between the first whistle and the penalty shootout 120 minutes later.

Which is why this goal may go down as the greatest thing to ever happen on a football pitch since Robbie Fowler celebrated a goal by snorting a penalty line.
