$10,000 for Sidney Crosby's missing stick and gloves

There's big bucks in store for the person who can turn in Sidney Crosby's missing hockey gear. Reebok Canada is offering a $10,000 reward, no questions asked, for the return of the stick and glove Crosby used to score his winning goal in last weekend's gold-medal game against the USA.

Hockey Canada says all of the equipment was collected and was being put into the players' bags when it was noticed Crosby's stick and glove were missing

So Canada wins...Tim Horton's 3 Dunkin Donuts 2.....and I suppose on the bright side, prevented a lot of suicides.

Three of the five goals in the game were scored by guys who went to the same Minnesota High School.... Parise, Toews, and Crosby.

U.S. 5 Canada 3...Take that you hosers!

Take that eh?......you hosers. A sign at Canada Hockey Place read, “This is our game.” But the U.S. came into Canada's home rink and stole it.

The win was the first for the U.S. over Canada since 1960 in Squaw Valley when they won gold and it means the Americans will get a bye in the first round of the medal playoffs.

It was fun to watch and it's fun to rip on the Canucks..... but it really isn’t that huge of an upset like the media would like you to believe. Trust me...Canada wanted it badly though. The U.S. was outshoot 2-1, but couldn't dent Miller. There is a lack of chemistry on these teams since there is zero practice time, so whoever gets the hot goalie play can usually ride that.

They've got a kick ass fight song....but it didn't do them much good.

"Green Technology" = Fail at Winter Olympics...Zamboni to the rescue!

They’re called “Olympia machines” — electric versions of the old Zambonis — but, like many brilliant “green” ideas, they’re expensive and don’t work:

The electric Zambonis — part of Canada’s attempt at a green Vancouver Olympics — failed multiple times this evening, causing a massive delay in in the middle of the Men’s 500-meter speedskating event.

The Canadian-built electric ice resurfacers used at the Richmond Olympic Oval are supposed to help the environment but it cost the second half of the 500M speedskating pairs after one ice-resurfacing machine couldn’t properly clean the ice. Then a second machine failed. Then they brought in a third and it, too, screwed up the course.
With speeds of up to 40 MPH reached on the ice, the rutted and uneven surface was considered too dangerous to skate on. It was eventually fixed but American Shani Davis, prepping himself for a gold medal run in the 1,000-meter, decided to withdraw.

Three electric Olympia machines were used, and none did the job. Now those things, along with their batteries, will probably end up on a scrap heap somewhere, and the Vancouver Olympics organizers are airlifting in a good ol’ gas-powered Zamboni from Calgary so there are no more long delays at the rink. “Carbon neutral” baby..... I can feel it getting warmer outside already.

Yeah, let’s put the greenies in charge of the whole world!

My Nominee for Dad of the Millenium!

There is an old adage that says "Good fences make good neighbors." I think this is what they meant.
While our efforts...back in the day... consisted of laying 2x4's in a square and flooding the backyard with a garden hose, along with hanging a light from the closest tree with an extension cord, this guy has taken it a step further.
Any Dad doing this would have been nominated for sainthood when I was a kid. They must have some nice neighbors too, as it goes across two backyards.

Look at the bottem picture of the cool Zamboni (in spite of the Oilers logo) . Zamboni actually manufactures these for the home market, called the model 100, baby brother to the real thing......where have I been?





In a related item I've never understood the appeal of this guy, a Canadian national icon, even though I grew up watching Hockey Night in Canada every week. Watch this video of "Making a suit with Don Cherry". At least the first 30 seconds to see the suit he shows up in. How can anyone wearing this stuff not be gay?

The Stanley Cup visits Brussels

The Stanley Cup visited Europe to help mark the 100th anniversary of the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Former NHL greats Peter Stastny, Slava Fetisov, Jyrki Lumme and Arturs Irbe were on hand to present the Cup to lawmakers and fans Tuesday at the European Parliament.
"Hopefully we can start a new tradition, and we might have, maybe not once a year, but once a while, have the Stanley Cup here at the European Parliament," said Stastny, who is now a lawmaker at the EU assembly.
The Cup was swarmed by fans who wanted a picture with the trophy, or with Stastny and Fetisov, who is now Russia's sports minister.
Phil Pritchard, the vice-president of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, said the Cup will return home Wednesday to await the winner of the NHL playoffs.
"Obviously it's very close to the NHL playoffs, (but) the timing was perfect. We were able to do it," Pritchard said.

This ain't good!

The worst fear of any hockey player occurred last night in Buffalo. Florida Panthers Richard Zednik who took a hockey skate to the throat and had an artery cut. Another Panther player kicked his leg up by accident and slashed Zednik in the throat.

The video of Zednik getting injured is barely visible in the clip, but you can see where the accident took place. You can also see the trail of sprayed blood from the corner to the bench if you look carefully during the wideshot of the ice.

Below is the ESPN report on Clint Malarchuk. I'm only showing this cause the guy turned out OK and actually played again...but pretty gruesome! This accident took place in 1989 and Malarchuk was saved by his trainer, a Vietnam Vet, if I remember, who rushed on the ice and kept Clint alive.
